What do you think - is it worth getting a clutch kit and putting it into my 165K '99 306 ? Will the flywheel take another clutch, or is it likely to be too worn/scored ?
The clutch has started to drag a bit, making it difficult to get out of gear when the engine is stopped. It still does disengage well enough to not grind, but is on the way out I think.
Everything else is fine (apart from the inevitable aircon).

I would say its definitely worth it, not sure Imwould touch the flywheel unless very worn.

I'd agree its worth it.
Unless its been down to the rivets the flywheel may well be completely fine.

I have never replaced a flywheel, even if it is scored it won't make a great deal of difference you still have a large contact area - and a new clutch.

OK, I get the message !
Need to cross my fingers and hang on a bit longer to make sure the weather is going to stay warmer. Its still driving fine, just have to really push all the way to the floor to fully disengage. Just hope it doesn't give up at a really inconvenient point.
I guess it makes sense to put the white plastic lever arm bushes in whilst the job is underway, probably also a new cable too. Anything else I should stock up on ?

I've done one of these - it's not too bad, I remember that unbolting the water heater off the back of the gearbox is tough - we were changing the coolant as well, so pulled the pipes off to get a bit more room.
The clutch cable cannot be done without removing the AC pipes across the bulkhead - so evacuation / re-charge needed - if it's still working!
The plastic bushes (and input shaft seal) need the release arm removing, which involves removing the pin in the shaft - which is hard / verging on impossible - we had to partially drill it out, and then hit it with a big hammer to get it out!

Ah the clutch cable.
You can either with care attempt to bend the pipes where the cable passes through the bulkhead or on the inner wing there is a bolt (I think its on the wheel side not 100% remembering) it holds a bracket with the pipes on, without this they do move another few mm, not a lot but possibly enough.
The pin in the clutch arm is a pain if its that design, more fun putting the box back though without breaking the release bearing.

It's a std push clutch, Andy, so no need to remove the release arm to get it off - but if you want to change the nylon bushes and input shaft seal, you need to remove the release arm, and the pin is often not for coming out
