Check the glow plug relay connectors. Remove the plug and look for corrosion. Spray with electrical contact cleaner and push it home/remove it a few times to get the contacts clean.
If that doesn't work it may be the relay itself sticking, fairly expensive to replace IIRC.

Couldn't say on a 406. It is right behind the battery on a 306. Never looked on my C5s and it isn't here yet so can't look at the moment.

Steve i thought Paul says its a Boxer  :-D

i think the glow plug relays on vehicle's of this age are electronic, i have seen a 306 which burned the glow plugs out completely were the relay stayed on all the time, this was an electronic relay,

maybe being a HDI it will start without the glow plugs????? even in out ice age conditions

I'm not sure where it is on a Boxer, been a long time. Probably around the battery area.

Just follow the heavy wiring from the glowplugs and the relay will not be far away.

thanks been to work today and the light came on as normal upon start up and went out as you would expect so now there seems to be no problem

would the wet weather we had when it started be any thing to do with it? a bit of damp got in some where?

well all has been good for a few days and today it lashed it down so the glow plug light starts again it must be the damp getting in somewhere i think but where?
