Sliding door problem 806

Post by PeterHunter »

Hi all,
Me again, with another problem.
Neither of my sliding doors will open from the outside. They both open ok from inside. To open them I open a front door and push both handles to slide the door open. The OS has been like it for ages whilst the NS door has always opened ok from the outside, but now the NS door won't open from outside either.
It's moor of a nuisance thing than anything else, but it would be good to get them working properly.
Does anyone know what's wrong and, more importantly, how to put it right?
By the way, the outside handles are firm, not floppy or anything.
Cheers, Peter

have the outer handles become floppy loose, if so either a link/rod has become detached, or the plastic lug the rod attache's to has snapped off,
it seems these handles breaking is a common fault on the 806, Synergie and the likes

Hi Malcolm, thanks for the reply.
No, not floppy or loos in any way. When the doors are open the outside handle operates the release mechanisiam perfectly, I can see it operating.
One thing I discovered yesterday, if I operate the dead lock with the key a few times, the passenger side door opened from the outside. The drivers side door did once, but then not again. I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem or not, but it seems to me as if it might.
Cheers, Peter.

try cleaning any electrical contacts the door make/breaks on opening/shutting it, im not sure on the 806 or even Synergie what the connection's are like,
but i imagine them to be spring loaded copper coloured pins that sit against a corresponding contact plate once the door is shut

All cleaned up and working fine now. Really glad as I didn't fancy taking the doors to bits. Just booked a drive/camping holiday in Normandy, so really want to get everything working before I go.
Thanks everyone. Peter

Yes, it seems like it. There's a row of spring loaded contacts on the door pillow, and a contact plate on the door. I cleaned everything and it seems to have done the job.

Thats good to know.

Mine sometimes does the same but from the inside. It's as if there is a child lock on, though I have no idea how to put the child locks on.
If I lock and unlock the door a couple of times either by remote or the button on drivers controls it sometimes works.

Ill give the contacts a clean and see if this works for me too.

Glad you got yours sorted.
Happy(ish) C8 owner.

Hi MonkeyMark.
Yeah, I tried doing that. I dead-locked them several times on the trot, and then tried the doors again and they opened, then they didn't, which made me think at least they were working ok. So when Malcom suggested cleaning the contacts I felt it might work, and it did. I cleaned mine with electronic contact spray (switch cleaner), but only because I had a tin sitting there.
The child lock is towards the top of the bottom half of the door (if that makes sense). It's black and round with a slot in the middle. Just put the key or screwdriver in and turn it slightly, clockwise for on anti for off. Just in case you didn't know.

Sorry, only just noticed this post.

If it's any help I can tell you my experience with these sliding doors.

Take the door card off and look at the mechanism around the interior opening handle.
You will see a small bar as thick as a coat hanger and about 4 inches long.
One end of it is anchored and the other end passes through a spring clip
The end that passes through the spring clip has about 6 or 8 grooves around its circumference (these are adjustment grooves)

What happens is that over time and with over exertion on the handles, the spring clip slips a groove or two and consequently does not move the door mechanism as much as it used to.

Simple solution is to prise the small bar out of the spring clip (noting which groove it is in) then reinsert into a groove further down the bar.

Simple job that takes about a minute to do after you get the door card off.

Hope this helps someone.

Cheers
