Ok, my plan now is:
  • change the oil
check the ECU to find what was the fault
check if I am running the latest software and if not update it
Do I need to go to Peugeot to check about the software?
thanks

Is this the correct one?

I gave them the part code you provided..
Pretty dear, 44£ for 4 liters....

I don't know if it is the right oil, but, as it has to last a very long time (at least a few years), £44 isn't so bad.

The fact that the second photo shows AFT 4HP 20 (as well as Puegeot/Citroen) would indicate it is the right oil, but I would wait for an expert to confirm it.

Yes, but it only works out at £1.10 per 1000 miles.

Whilst we await an expert I'm happy to confirm that stuff is the right stuff as the only ATF for the HP20 is LT71141 and that will be it.

£44 is a good price I believe but have a natter with Simon (Mandrake) up in the Citroen forum as he has done several changes on his HP20 and he may know of a more economical source. Try sending him a PM

I was waiting for CitroJim to pick up on this thread, as he knows these 'boxes inside and out (and probably better than most Cit/Pug mechanics). It would be fair to say that most people who know him would say he is an expert in the 'boxes.

I'm no expert James...

You know what an expert (phonetically x-spurt) is don't you? An x is an unknown quantity and a spurt is a drip under pressure...

I'm neither of those things so by definition I can't be an expert

OK, I stand corrected. However, In "Tactics of Mistakes" by Gordon R. Dickson, Cletus Grahame makes the comment 'I am not an expert, I am a scholar. There's a difference. An expert's a man who knows a great deal about his subject. A scholar's someone who knows all there is that's available to be known about it'.

Oops, I think that the thread might have become hijacked. Any idea as to how we can re-rail it?

If you can't get enough 4711 to refill the transmission, Chanel No.5 ought to suffice.

It won't go far, but by golly it'll smell alluring on the recovery truck.

Today I went to change the oil of my gearbox
Printed the instructions and got the oil ready
when we put the car up, it was clear where was the drain
open the plug, BUT there was NO drain plug???
So only one screw
Oil came down pretty clean, i can say no difference with the new one.
Approx 700ml of oil came out, then it started to drip little by little.
Car was hot and in park, engine was not running.
Opened the fill hole, hoping it would help the oil to come out.
nothing.
I filled back 700ml of new oil, and closed up everything.
Me and the mechanic were puzzled..
what is going on? Did they change the gearbox drain design so to empty it is needed to split it open?
no other drains were present.

Had a chat with the mechanic
he had no previous experience with a car with no drain, however he suggested me to verify with Peugeot...
Interesting enought, when I rang peugeot and asked if the car had the gear oil changed before, they answered me that was "confidential" and they could not tell me due to privacy issues!!!
However they offered to check at my "next" service..
i dont know it doesnt sound fair at all to me, they got the records since they did all the maintenance, and are not willing to tell me unless I do the job at them...
The amount of oil that was put back was probably a bit more, since the car expelled some on the same day.
From then, no more leaks..
