306 Diesel fuel pump leaking CAV DPC

Post by DavidKl »

The fuel pump, a CAV DPC has started leaking at the joint between the aluminium body and the steel hydraulic head end.

Anyone know how difficult it is to take the hydraulic head off and replace the seal?.

Apart from this engine runs fine.

I think the pump would need to come off to take the head off as you need it vertical ideally to do this.

This is a Bosch one > http://www.eastment.net/boschpump8.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , but it may give some idea until someone else posts. :)

It is actually leaking from the joint between the aluminium body and the steel end.
Quite a good leak too, half a cup in 10 minutes. It actually slows to a few drips after the engine has been running about 15 minutes.

I paid a pump shop to replace the seals 2 years ago, but I don't think anything was actually done.
I just purchased a genuine workshop manual and removing the sections appears to be reasonably simple.

Thanks spider.

Thanks citronut.

Really?

I'd not say removing the distributor head from a DPC was easy at all. Certainly it's nothing like the Bosch. I have and if you still find you need to I can guide.

There is just a big O ring under the distributor head...
