Re: engine and gearbox info please
The old Rover 418 had a Peugeot XU diesel engine but just the bare block and head, everything that bolts to it is "Rover" or different.I can remember swopping engines with a Peugeot 405 but that was a long time ago. There is a big gap in ages with your 806 and the Rover and I think you will encounter problems. If your 806 does need a transplant I think you would be better off sourcing an engine from a same age 806.

I think its the XUD and BE3 unit 'as is' , the external linkages will differ a bit but in most cases these are unboltable from the box externally anyway.
The 806 has cable control. Its a right pain to replace them (did loads on the Expert vans) as the 'U' clips are a pain to get at a bit. Its not adjustable as such as far as I can remember.

Re: WILL IT FIT
Actually thinking again the 418 had the XUD7 and XUDT7 units. These are 205 and early 405 units but they are essentially the same really as the XUD9 / XUDT9 apart from intercooler in the smaller cars and things like belt vacuum pump.

The Rover 418 I remember (years ago)had the old 405 XU diesel with two belt driven pumps (Vacuum & PAS)running off the camshaft. The gearbox was not a Peugeot unit but a "Rover" box.I`m pretty sure it was infact a Volkswagen gearbox? as was the case in a lot of "BL" cars in those days.
