I need a PugCit parts catalog! (305)

Post by nametooshort »

It seems that the 305 is such a mystery car that nobody (apart from specialists, who obviously are not expected to answer questions for free!) know much about it.

It's not like a Golf or Passat, where you can ask almost anybody almost anything, and there are thousands of people in the world who will be able to tell you straight away what every part is, what other cars it fits, and where it's available (and often what common models it also fits so its easier to find).

But it seems the 305 is not like that, since I guess it doesn't really have a scene (nobody drives around in Germanlook 305s or anything I guess, unlike Golfs and Polos and 205s and other more popular 'scene cars', which are commonly modified by people so knoweledge is vast) so it seems knowledge is hard to come by.

So, I have decided that what I need is a re-print of a parts catalog. That's the only way I think I can get along with this car.

I have some catalogs for a lot of old vehicles (mainly VWs), but nothing French unfortunately. All manufacturers made parts catalogs for their cars, but they are hard to find.

Does anybody know anywhere (apart from that UK Peugeot Parts site, which I already asked) that I could try?

I guess I should look on ebay fr, but I don't speak French at all, and using on-line translation for car related stuff usually results in disaster. Anyone happen to know what a parts catalog would be called in French in this context?

I have this theory that's becoming more and more proven, that pug 305 parts are not that unique or hard to find. For example, the UK has the coolest company ever called GSF (and also Europarts are cool too), they are cool because they sell pattern parts for almost everything and real cheap. Sure they are 'alternative quality', but unfortunately most parts available new are anyway. The only difference is that other people charge you more money for the same crap parts, whereas those companies sell them for realistic money. Believe it or not, since I discovered GSF in the UK, half my buddies in the US who are into Euro cars now order stuff from there, even with international shipping they are still way better priced, and their range is huge.

So as an example, if I call up GSF and ask for something for a 305, they say they don't stock that item.

However, if I then give them the PugCit part number, it turns out that they DO stock it, it's just not listed as fitting a 305, because the 305 does not appear in most databases for some reason.

This has happened again and again and again, to the point where I am not convinced that 305s just don't exist on parts lookup databases, but that doesn't mean their parts are uncommon.

Its kind of the same with Passats. Early Passats don't appear in alot of databases, so you would think that their parts are rare, but as soon as I got myself a new-old-stock VW parts catalog for a Passat, we all realized that actually the after-market sector is flooded with parts for them, just not listed as such. Every old Passat owner's (who I know anyways) parts bills literally decreased like 5-fold just because I found that catalog and we can now look stuff up by their part numbers.

So having a parts catalog for my 305 would make things so much easier, and will hopefully (just like it did with Passats) end the whole parts finding problem once and for all.

Buuuuut....where can I find one guys?

PS before you ask, OF COURSE, if I find one, I will provide the information to anyone who asks! As many people know I always try to do my bit for the old-car-owner community.

back in those days the parts database was on microfiche. If you save an ebay search for "peugeot 305 microfiche" I'm pretty sure something will turn up
I had some success reading it with a usb microscope, but I think the way to go might be macro tubes on a decent digital SLR

As it happens, I think one of the many items of junk that I accumulated is a Microfiche reader! Its in NY and I havn't seen it for a while (its with THAT batch of junk), but it does exist. I wander if that can work. Is microfiche all the same, or are there specific types?

I wonder if a high quality scanner would be capable of resolving microfiche data.

I have a microfiche but only groups 0 to 4 (Engine/Engine Equipment/Transmission/Axle/Steering-gear-brakes) for 305. If your stuck don't forget Dean Hunter, who will probably know exactly what you need. http://www.peugeotparts.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Is there any possibility of buying or borrowing or renting that from you?
