how to dismantle 806 / Synergie driveshaft / CV joint ?

Post by dieselnutjob »

The CV gaiter has split on my 806 (outer joint, wheel end).
Anyone know if you can separate the CV joint from the drive shaft? or is it done at the other end (I think it's called a triplex joint). Do you just hammer them off like my old 305 or is there some other trick?

im 99% sure these do just knock off, just mind when applying the hammer you only strick the center castellated section were its against the shaft its self,

never hit the cage that holds the ball bearing in place as you can fracture this,

also hold the shaft with a pair of grips to stop it pulling the inner end apart

I forgot that I had dealer CD with repair methods for the 806
according to that it depends what type of drive shaft I have

if it is a "TYPE GLAENZER SPICER (GKN)" then the inner (gearbox end) must be dismantled first and the "spider joint" has to be removed (circlip pliers needed). Then the outer gaiter can be taken off. It looks a bit of a pain.

if it is a "TYPE PSA" then the outer CV joint is attached using a C clip like other old PugCits which means only disassembling one end and no special tools.
