If your mechanic said it was awkward to refill i would change your mechanic -

Yeah, I'm at the mercy of the mechanics and their words. If this was an IT/computer problem I would have wrapped things up in no time at all.

So the additive - can I get it from anywhere else, other than then Pug dealers? What am I looking for/how much should I be paying?

So not from the dealer then - unless I want to get ripped off?

Chances are thatit is the low Eolys fluid which has caused the warning, its not unknown for it to put up the anti pollution fault due to this.

In fact about 3 years ago I went to buy a facelifted C5 2.0HDi which was in Middlsbrough, during the test drive the car would not rev above 2500rpm. So, despite the warranty the car came with, I left it and bought another C5 instead. I saw that C5 at the local Citroen dealer who couldn't find the problem, it was eventually repaired by a diesel specialist in Boro who just topped up the Eolys fluid! Nice when things are a little more simple than you did imagine.

The the FAP is regenerating, and it seems as though it is after having a garage run the system, then it might not need the FAP pressure washing/changing.

Well I am going to get the additive tomorrow - hopefully the dealer will do a good price (both for supply and fit).

I really need to get this sorted now, its beginning to get frustrating.

Thanks, but this stuff is all above my head.

Ideally I need someone who can say: "bring the car round, I can fix this, it'll cost you this much...". The mechanics cant be bothered so the only alternative is an independant peugeot specialist... = £££s.

I think this is doing your head in,do you need all this? I got the additive kit from my Peugeot Dealer the other day and it was £90 !! I`ve never tried factor stuff all i know is there are different types of fluid and its got to be right for your model. Its a "Peugeot Man`s" job to refill or you will end up with £50 of fluid on the floor!! The HDi I had (not a 307) was in limp mode,"K" light on etc etc, carried out the above re-fill,then the regeneration cycle for 30mins on the Peugeot diag` tool and its been as good as gold ever since, but I still think you should have sent it back??

I was going to last night but my mate isnt exactly playing ball anymore. Bottom line is, I am going to:

1) get a quote for the full repair from the dealers.
2) get a quote for the full repair from any independant peugeot specialist.
3) get a quote for a mickey mouse/bodge up repair from my local mechanic.

I'll present the first two options to him and basically get that money back from him.

So your mate won't take the car back off you?
Has he offered to pay for some/all of the repair costs?

If it does just need the fluid topping up and resetting onthe Peugeot Planet then it might not cost the earth. Though yes, the fluid is a little pricey.

well the agreed price for the car was £2k. I paid him £1500 with the £500 to paid either:

- as soon as I sell my old car (x-reg 406, currently advertised on autotrader)
- when i get my next wage (i.e. end of the month)

however as soon as this carry on started i told him I wanted a refund - to which he instantly agreed. however, as i was unable to go straight back to birmingham i thought i may as well take the car to a few mechanics to get the problem diagnosed (and an idea of the costs). at first it sounded like - 'hey no problem, its an easy and cheap fix'. so i contacted my mate and said: 'call it £1500 and were done'. that way, even if i spent £500 (i.e. on repairs, timing belt change, servicing, valetting, etc) I would still have gotten the car for £2k (or less). So of course by then it was pretty much the end of the issue.

Point being (it may or may not cost me £500 to sort the car out... but) as it stands with my mate:

- i am keeping the car.
- if it costs more than £500 to sort out he will pay me the difference.

***UPDATE***

Last night i took the 307 to a friends mechanic. he said it just needs the additive topping up and thats it. After that if there was still a problem then they can just remove the DPF, clean it out with a overnight parrafin/acid bath and jet wash the rest (the exhaust???).. or something along those lines (i cant remember exactly what he said).

So, I'm getting the fluid from the dealers first. Dont know if they're open today (with it being new years eve... or if they're open on saturdays anyway). if the dealers dont rip me off i'll get them to fill the additive tank up for me (i assume they would do any necessary computer/diagnostics work as part of their price?).

Hopefully the additive top up is the solution to the whole problem... BUT CAN IT BE THAT SIMPLE? Life never is!
