406 Electric Window fault.

Post by woodhead722 »

My drivers side works OK.
The passenger side, when operating the drivers switch would go down and OCCASIONALLY not go up.
No problem because it would go up from the passenger side.
Next day or so it was probably OK!!

This has got worse until the passenger side window wont work from either switch. Luckily it is up!!

Where to start or your similar experience would be appreciated. THANKS!

Is the car post 2000 model year ?

Later windows (and some earlier 'one touch' ones) have to be learned to go up / down you can do this by just opening and closing them a few times until they "learn" the extent of their travel.

My other thought was the switch but as its acting up from both that's not likely. It could be a wiring issue (rare as 406's do not suffer with the door loom concern) or possibly just a tired motor.

Sorry that's a bit generic.
Andy.

Could it be that both switches are wired in series, as on the XM, in which case a fault on either one will cause a problem. Try taking them out and giving the innards a good squirt of WD40 then give them a good workout.

Spider, the car is W reg 2000. I took mine off today and the window control has a terminal block with 7(8) female plugs in.
I tried a switch block from a scrappy, plugged it in to all my wires but didn't work, (mirrors or anything). It was wet and it seemed to be breaking up.

If it was meant to seperate, then maybe I cold clean mine but in fairness I had the impression the scrap one was breaking.
Peter N.
If it is meant to seperate then maybe the WD40 will assist, but until then I dont want to make things worse while my fault MAY be elsewhere. THANKS

W is probably multiplexed. It could even be an issue in the BSI although I'm not convinced of that. Do you have anyone nearby with a Planet / Lexia diagnostic ? That may reveal something.
