Hi All
My friend has asked me to look at his 206 its a year 2000, automatic 1.4. The speedo has stopped working, I guess its an electronic speedo ? Could it be the sensor in the gearbox ? What can i check ?
Thanks

I would (as I've not seen an auto one for a while) its similar to the manual, in that there's a sensor screwed into the diff housing area where the cable assembly would of once gone.
As its relatively quite low down, unplug it and inspect the plug / sensor terminals for corrosion. Not that likely but worth a quick look.
I don't think autobox's suffer from the speedo drive gear going for a "walk" down the shaft like some of the MA manuals can, although this is very annoying its rare, thankfully.
Start with the sensor wiring anyway. Is it multiplexed ? (if in doubt, the key is square on a multiplexed car and rounded (a bit) on non multiplexed as you're right on the changeover year.

Quite likely I would say. My speedo was intermittent, I cleaned the connections on the plug and it would be OK for a while then pack up again. Had no more trouble since I fitted a new sensor. The only other likely cause are dry joints on the instrument panel, so I would do the easiest thing first.
