Multifunction display just a flashing hyphen

Post by willy »

The multifunction display does not work on my Peugeot 406 1.9 TD 1996.

It just shows a flashing hyphen next the the deg C.

I'm a bit nervous about buying a new one if it turns out not to be the issue. What is the most likely issue in everyones experiences?

Wouldn't have thought so - it is generally just the actual temperature that defaults to -- when the thermistor goes on holiday.
Which is what I thought that you meant.

Looks like some deeper issue. Could just be poor connections to the display. On Citroens they are easy to remove but I couldn't say where Peugeots are concerned.

It is the sensor as Steve has said, if it cannot read from it, it will do a --- type thing. It could be the wiring or the sensor, although the wiring for these sensors is usually quite reliable to be honest. It is normal for the rest of the display to work (yours is probably radio or clock display at a guess)

The wiring is part of the mirror wiring (assuming electric mirror's)

Its in the n/s mirror usually. You can tell for sure as there'a 'bump' under the bottom plastic on the mirror housing on the sensor side of the car.

I'm not sure of availability outside the mirror housing. I'll have a look later if needed :)
