Since its a 407 you must have the later 2.0HDi 16V with 138bhp?

Same as our C5 estate, ours is a 6 speed manual but it returns 45-47MPG on average, carying a heavy load.

10MPG less for an autobox seems a lot :?

2.0 and 2.2 HDi diesel engines and auto gearboxes don't appear to be a happy match, even with the latest C5's I think there's a 9 mpg penalty compared with the manual versions.

Well book MPG figures for your car are:

Feul consumption (Urban) 28.2 mpg
Fuel consumption (extra urban) 51.3 mpg
Fuel consumption (combined) 39.7 mpg

So your not that far off actually.

Its certainly a big drop just because of the auto box, thats a shame.

What do you think to your 407? There is very few owners on here and it would be good to read what an owner thinks about their 407. The 407 is a car i really like but ive not had anything to do with them. Its a shame they didnt make it a hatchback though.

i really like it apart from the not quite what i hoped for mpg. its my first saloon and i'm still getting used to the small opening for the boot. the 407 has loads of toys and automatic everything. really comfy too. if you want to know anything just ask!

I normally get less than 30mpg from my 607 2.2HDI auto

I have noticed that on a long motorway drive I get over 40mpg without even trying, but it really seems to hate town driving, and I live in London...

Anyway today the cat and the DPF got replaced with a straight bit of pipe (I will have to reflash the ECU soon too, before it freaks out that the DPF has gone). I'm hoping that'll improve things.

I have my C5 in Spain at the mo and on the 1300 mile journey down, carrying a heavy load, I filled up with 50 or so litres three times. Recorded 49.5 mpg for the journey. Well pleased.

also, the computer might be wrong
the only reliable method is to brim the tank, drive it a bit and then brim the tank again.
mpg is then how far you went divided by how much you put in the second time

With careful driving the 2.0HDi can be very fuel efficient. Though they obviously dont like auto boxes.
