Help with diagnostic result on 306 hdi

Post by scfc_151 »

Ive just got my car back from its diagnostic at a pug/cit specialist.

He told me there were a few problems. 1st ill quickly explain the symptoms.

Sluggish when turning over. Engine revs drop when braking until pedal is lifted. Engine 'over run' a few times when ignition is turned off (this is what set the management light off)

So there was a crank sensor fault. He then tested the battery and told me this was shot pulling only 200amps. He explained that this could cause that fault to show up.

The air flow sensor showed a fault. He told me this was also corroded.

Finally the fuel pressure regulator came up.

Now the car has covered 200,000 miles and if I could keep it on the road at a reasonable price I would.

However the only worry I have is that the cost of parts seems very expensive. He suggested £280ish for the fuel regulator and around £100+ for an airflow sensor.

The battery was bosch silver so was under its 5 year warranty.

My question is do I need to get parts from the dealer only as the mechanic doesnt trust aftermarket parts? If not where should I be looking to get them. I dont want to spend too much as I could get the codes cleared and the problem isnt solved.

Cheers

For the airflow meter buy them from a main dealer only, there's lots of reports of fakes that don't work correctly.

Any way to confirm that it is a genuine genuine one?
I will probably need one by the looks of things.

Just spoke to the garage, they said the part is £293 for the pressure regulator and £100 for the maf flow sensor and about £75+VAT fitting.

I know they are straight forward jobs especially the maf sensor but its keeping the regulator absolutley clean that would be difficult and I would rather leave that to an expert.

All in all im looking at £500 for the job.

Now im considering whether to pay for it as I love the car or start looking at another newer car?
