99 406 code reader (uk)

Post by john406 »

hello fellow pug owners.
can anyone help, pls.
I have been trying to find a code reader for my 1999 406 2.0.hdi 110 with little success.
I have already bought an autel maxiscan ms509, but can only turn code off with it. can't read code.

do i need a specific reader for french cars of this age. if so, which one.

You need a Peugeot Planet 2000 diagnostic computer, the twin sister of the Citroen Lexia machine.

There is at least one owned by one of the members who may be willing to read your fault codes and reset/manipulate them for you.

A proper Planet is thousands but if you have a laptop running XP then you can get a Chinese clone for somewhere in the region of £150.

I bought my Chinese clone from Ebay and it works a treat on my 307SW, type "lexia 3 citroen peugeot diagnostic" into the Ebay search bar - plenty to choose from. It doesn't work on Windows Vista though.

From what I remember the cost to the dealer was about £5K each although that might of been discounted as they got three or four at one time if my memory serves

I have the Chinese software and dongles. On the only 406 scanned so far (a D8 version), it has had trouble talking to the climate control ECU and airbag module. I feel this was mainly due to tenuous connectivity.

PP, hands down.

The FR704 isn't bad, but you can do more with Planet.

That's where the trouble seems to start. I purpose-bought an older laptop (2005 version) to load it with XP Pro.

The seller I used was called "Buy-OBD" and were located in Taiwan. Took eleven calendar days from order to arrival.
