"2005 Peugeot 607 HDI not starting

Post by emc4raz »

Hi, ive got a peugeot 607 2.2 HDI, ive fitted a replacement engine which came with the diesel pump, the car is not cranking over and goes into economy mode.

Is it true the diesel pumps are coded to the ECU and a replacement 2nd hand unit wont work with a different ecu

As far as I know, yes you are right. You cannot just pop another pump / engine in.

It's probably possible to have it all re-coded though, you need someone with Planet / Diag or possibly a Lexia might do it.

I think it is but cannot be 100% sure.

Ideally you need to find a member on here with a Planet (or at a push a Lexia 'might' work but I'm not sure as that's Citroen) to attempt to 'code' it, nothing to lose as it does not work now.

O.K car is not cranking that could be due to many things bad battery, mismatched security codes however that should give you a warning least ways does on the C5. The electrics will automatically go into economy mode after a certain time, this time is programmable in the BSI so may vary between cars.

Assuming that this is the same Bosch injection system as the C5 the pump is not coded, the pump does not have an ECU. The injection ECU is coded and cannot (easily) be swapped between cars.

The injection ECU will need to be told what class injectors are fitted, don't know how much difference this makes to actually getting the engine to run.

That's a point. The injectors would need coding otherwise they will not work at all (unless they are the original ones from the 'dead' engine and they went back in the same places)

Although getting them out can be 'fun' from what I hear.

Injectors were from the existing car, spoken to a few ppl and the main dealer and the diesel pump is not coded and will go straight in. Mechanics gonna take a look at it again tommorow, do you know if the injectors will need to go in the exact order as they are numbered. Been told it should start atleast even if they are in a different order.

Shouldn't make any difference if they are all the same class.

Do you have fuel to the filter bowl? or better from the filter to the HP pump?

Cars running now, but lack of power and anti pollution fault appears, been told too drive the car at about 50-60 mph for a little while to clear it up.

Also after the car was running for some time, i turned it off and left for 10 mins or so, started back up was reving the car for quite some time is well a load of white, clear smoke appeared, than dissapeared after a little while. Could that be from the clogged filter.

Give it a damned good run and hope it cleans things up.
Unlikely to pass the MOT if it is smoking.
