406 2.0Hdi 'Stutter'

Post by woodhead722 »

Hi I've recently bought a w reg 406Hdi.

It runs OK but then occasionally stutters when idling.

It occasionally feels slightly strange when driving on constant throttle opening - as if someone is SLIGHTLY altering opening.

The car has a few problems, but I am trying to decide what's up with this 'stutter' before I spend any more on it.

I have never seen any smoke at all.

Ideas appreciated - thank you!

Get it on a Lexia and see what the fuel pressure is doing. It could be swarf in the fuel pressure regulator on the pump, or the pressure sensor on the rail, or a worn / cracked injector causing leak off problems on the rail pressure.

Realised after I had posted that, that this is the Puf forum where Lexia doesn't really apply  Lexia is the Citroen diagnostic tool - Planet 2000 is the Pug equivalent I think - but a Lexia may well talk to a Pug. There's a list of people with Lexias in the Supersticky forum - there may be some one near you prepared to wave their Lexia over your car to see if it will tell all!

Called at a garage today and he suggested they check the EGR valve, or maybe there is a vacuum pipe leaking. Fingers crossed!!!!!!!!!
