306 Air Conditioner not Working

Post by Dave1 »

I have revently aquired T/D 306 Meridian 99 model. With the recent warm weather I have discovered the A/C is not working. Only done 29k miles. Any suggestions on what I should check before I have to fork out at Peugeot. I am new to A/C but under the glove box there is a constant fan type noise even if A/C light is off. Probably not relevant but what is it. Haven't really got too deep into just yet. Just enjoying the car.
Any ideas appreciated.

Hi,
Is the compressor clutch on when the AC is switched on? There should be a "click" sound comming from the AC compressor.
If the clutch is not working, very likely that there is no R134 A in the system. The first thing I would do is to get the AC recharged. It my be simply that there is not enough R134A in the system.
If you suspect the system is leaking again - not cooling after a few days, get it tested by an AC specialist for leaks.

Thanks for your reply. You may well be right. When you turn the A/C on nothing happens at all. No "click" as you say and little else. I know from having a hire car with A/C that when you turn it on, the idle speed drops a little due to the extra power needed. This does not happen. I will take your advice and get it checked initally. I presume the product you refer to is refridgerant. As I said, I am new to this A/C stuff.
I will let you know
Thanks
Dave.

I have now had chance to get the system looked at and found it did need charging. For two days all was well until I noticed the green fluid on my garage floor. It was just a small amount but I could see it was coming from the pipe that crosses behind the radiator from the condenser to the compressor. The garage have reclaimed the gas initially and ordered the pipe. Problem is there are no pipes available and are on back order at every garage I have tried. Pug relations say it is a known problem and they are "trying" to address it. Not much to be done other than check around I guess. Does anyone know of a source?
