xud9 rods on xu9. is it possible?

Post by a2002 »

hello
i am newbie in pugs
i want to go with turbo on my xu9 and i am afraid of blowing the engine there for i needed to use turbo diesel rod or even pistons
now i have a question
is there any one to have exprience use this combo on non diesel engines?
i decide to use a xu9 crank with turbo diesel rod and pistons from a xud9 406

welcome to every idea could help me
i think standard piston and rod are weak to handle the boost
any exprience??!!

thanks for your help

Do not use N/A (non turbo) rods with a turbo unit, they will not stand it for long.

The TD rods are a lot stronger.

The turbo block is a bit better too, cooling jets under the pistons etc, perhaps some of the N/A units have this too, I am not sure.

There was (I think) a tiny batch of turbo engines incorrectly fitted with N/A rods, they did not last long ;) (they got sorted well within the warranty period though)

there for you are also agree to use better rods with std pistons

i have another question
what about using mi16 rods and standard pistons
are the wrist pin and the height of them same ?

i think standard piston can handle the boost but rods will fall me into trouble

where i can find best oem parts? or used parts with proper cost

are you agree with std pistons and mi16 rods?

That's something I can't help you with, not my area :) and I don't have specification lists.

Logic would say to 'start' with the XUDT block anyway (the turbo block) not the N/A one, you have a few extras like oil cooling jets under the pistons etc already which will help a lot.

Not in a diesel! Petrol rods and pistons are entirely different to turbo diesel items. The TD pistons have specially thick iron crowns to be able to withstand the combustion pressures and additionally have cutouts for the valves.

Petrol pistons and rods (Mi16 or otherwise) even if the valves did not kiss them would last all of five minutes at a rough guess.

XUD9T engines are not hard to come by.

You also need the turbo cam. It's milder than the NA item. An NA cam is not recommended in a turbo engine.

Finally, you'll need an injection pump with an LDA to provide on-boost overfuelling.

Easiest way is to just drop a complete turbo engine in place of an NA. Mountings are the same...

:D Hi and welcome :)

at the moment there's a Citroen Xantia or XM 2.0L Turbo in a local breakers , so would seem a lot of work to start building an engine to fit a turbo :)

I'm trying to work my way through the cobwebs  back in the early nineties a friend of a friend used to drag race Peugeot's and I'm sure they used a petrol head on the diesel turbo block for many reasons , piston skirt oilers / iron block / oil feed return for turbo , he was said to get some serious times . I've seen pics of one of his cars when the cylinder head departed the engine and went through the bonnet
Not sure if HDi rods might fit as been told there forged for lightness

The other turbo kits back in the day = there used to be a couple of 205 Dimmer's locally and one had a turbo conversion

Gents, I believe he's trying to create an XU9J2TE, not a warmed over diesel:

(Pugbus seems to have read the OP as I did.)

From memory, some people have used the XUD9 crank in an XU10 petrol block, to stroke the motor.

this is exactly what i am looking for
:D

tell my question this way
i want to turbo xu9 and there is no problem with crank it is strong enough
the main problem is pistons rods and piston rings
as i read in pug forums mi16 rods are thicker and stronger and capable of handling the boost
can i use them with standard piston? because i think with mi16 pistons the comp ratio will raise and not good for turbo application

and second
what are the best oem pistons and rings for pug group and where i can buy them as i am in middle east and all the pistons i found here are from china
