Steering/Tracking problem

Post by ayresie »

Hi everyone.

I have a 2006 206cc 1.6 HDi and have a tracking problem.

The problem is that the o/s/f wheel is wearing prematurely on the outer edge.

I had the tracking done and the car began pulling severely to the left when the steering wheel was straight.

To ease the problem, the tracking was done again and the o/s/f wheel was adjusted outwards by around 2 degrees!

The steering is now ok around the straight ahead but when I let go of the wheel, the car pulls to the left again.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks - Ben

Assuming nothing is damaged or bent, my first thought is the wishbone bush'es, as if there's movement in these (sometimes you can see them 'out' of the arm a bit as they are pressed in vertically) you will never get the tracking right.

Get the front wishbone bushes checked, its quite common unfortunately, I used to do loads :(

Assuming they are OK and the trackrod ends (and rack!) , wheel bearings (rare) are OK, it should track up fine then :)

Hi spider.

Bushes should be ok as it passed the MOT last week but I'll have it checked somewhere else just in case.

Many Thanks for the advice

Worth checking anyway :)

The other thing that could cause it is the bottom ball joint to an extent, although that would of been picked up on the MOT...
