306 condensation

Post by Chevron Terry »

Hi there ,
Anytbody know if an 306 , 2000 model , would have the dreaded heater matrix , buried somewhere in the depths of the engine bay !
When my wife starts the car , the windscreen is clear , after a few minutes the screen mists over , with the heater on .
anybody got any ideas ?
Terry .

Assuming you do not have the re-circulation switched on (should be off in most circumstances) it does point towards the heater matrix :(

If it is that it's not a very nice job to do on a 306, from memory the "book" time is about 9 hours in the workshop (slightly over one working day)

However, before going to such lengths (!) , carefully check for any water getting into the car especially door seals etc, look for small puddles or anything inside the car, water will cause it to condensate.

As long as it doesn't smell of antifreeze it is probably not the matrix. Could be moisture retained in the aircon system or a damp pollen filter. Mine does this but clears pretty quickly with the screen clear button pushed for a minute.

The trick is to switch off the aircon a bit before you stop the car to give the exchanger time to warm up and lose any ice/condensation or it will just blow this into the car on startup - I always forget to hit the economy button too :(

Using the aircon on startup helps to remove moisture and alleviate the misting.

myglaren has it pretty much sorted there.

RHD 306's DON'T have a pollen filter so is isn't that. The AC does cause misting up when you turn on if you forget to turn it off a few minutes before the end of the journey though so this is likely if your AC still works, which is very unlikely :P

Could also be a clogged airbox drain.

That's a good point. The drain plugs in AC 306's always fall off, they're useless. If you can, glue it back on (making sure the hole in the middle is still there and not glued over)

I've fixed a leaking matrix on a 306 with some of this

Works a treat as long as it's not too far gone, and it's a lot easier than removeing the dash \:D/
