206 1.9 Deisel RPM

Just aquired, 206 1.9 Diesel, the RPM travelling at 70MPH is around 3500 is this the norm? as i have a 1.9 TD Xantia same block but only around 2500 at same speed?

That does seem a bit high for an NA diesel. I presume it has the DW8 engine? At that speed it's almost out of puff from my memories of a 1.9 NA XUD.

In fact that's not much lower than Robyn's 1.4 petrol 206 at 70...

I wonder if someone, at some time or another, has swapped in a petrol gearbox for some reason. Else, speedo or tacho are miles out of calibration...

Thanks for that Jim, i dont know which engine model it is, it's on a 51 plate just pre HDI. By chance yesterday spoke to a chap at the petrol station who had the same car on a Y plate he too was around 3500 RPM at 70 so i'm not on my own!
