406 headlight issue

Post by rayc »

Well, further to my previous post asking for advice I got my sister a 1999 T plate Phase 1 2ltr 110 HDI GLX for £500! :D
182k miles but drives like a car with 50k on it.

One issue it has.

Headlights.

There is a wire running across the rads feeding the headlights with a live feed from left to right or right to left.
My mates 99 2 ltr HDI Executive had the same issue.

Can anyone guide me in the right direction for sorting out the issue (It seems a common problem). Fuses ok but I'm assuming one side has lost it's live feed.

I'm assuming either a relay is kaput or maybe the light switch in the stalk (I had that on a ford once).

Has anyone had the problem and managed to rectify it? Any advice would be appreciated

Cheers

Ray

Not sure about the lights but they only made the hdi in a phase 2 (or D9) the phase 1 (or D8 ) was the td 1.9 or 2.1, I only point this out so you can get the right info :)

Hi Mark
Thanks for the info but I think it is a phase 1only for the following reasons.

It does not have the clear headlights and has the bonnet with two bonnet catches.

Also the rear lights are not the ones with the colour coded bar through them.

I am no expert by any means and thought the phase two was the facelifted (clear headlight) model.

My friend recently sold an S plate 99 HDI Executive which was the same as my sisters.

It may well be a phase two. Maybe someone can tell me what the difference is? :?

Yes it doe's sound like it's a phase one (d8 ) but the HDI didn't start untill phase two, so you most likely have either the 1.9td 90bhp or the 2.1td 110bhp.

Definately a HDI Mark.

I own a 2004 HDI estate currently and the engines are identical.

My mates 99 S plated exec was also an HDI.

Probably phased the engines in before the bodywork.

When the cars here at the weekend I'll get a picture
