306 Key question

Post by jgra1 »

hi all.

Can my friend get a spare key cut for her 306TD, it's a 1997 car (with a non-immobilised bosch pump).. I am guessing there are no chips in the key.. there doesn't seem to be a key dash-light either.. it begs the question, how is a 1997 306 td immobilised ? no keypad...

If it is indeed a chipped key, the fact that the pump is from an older car, would mean the spare key would work fine ?

many thanks
John

Hi John,

I onve had a 1997 (R reg) 306 D Turbo and this was immobilised via the transponder chip in the key.
I'm not sure if it is just the pump that is immobilised by this way as I think that the standard peugeot immobiliser is thatcham catagory 2 which I think had to have 2 circuits immobilised. (my old cavalier had the starter motor and fuel pump immobilised using a thatcham catagory 2 immobiliser).
I know alot of key cutters can cut a key and program it from the original key for less than £30 (I once had it done).
I hope this helps.

Simon.

Simon many thanks for that.

Malcolm, (citroenut) also gave me some info... it seems if you dont have the factory key number, you need to go to a dealer and get that info, plus the blank key, plus recoding - around £70 I think.. Interesting you mention that it may be possible to 'read' the original key and get a new one cut and coded for £30..

It turns out she just wanted boot access and thought the new key would give her that... her lock was seized as was the central locking unit.. I free'd up the latter on Tue evening so she has a boot now :)

On my Xantia, sometimes the key light flashes and beeps ( I presume the chip or reciever is giving/getting a bad signal) but the car still turns over and still starts...
