Smokey expert van mot fail !!

Post by matt »

Hi all, just had the van mot'd and the tester said it was 'well over the limit' on the smoke test.

I had this before on the 405 and after a service and a thrash it passed no problem, trouble is he didnt tell me how much over the limit it was so im wandering if anyone knows what else i can do to make sure when it goes back it flies through!!

Cheers, matt

What engine?
When was it last serviced/air filter changed?
If it's a 1.9TD disable the EGR valve. If it's also got a bosch fuel pump, fill up with vegetable oil straight off the shelf.
Also give it a good italian tune up :)

Its a 1999 xu td,last serviced 10 months ago.Just had a look at the filter and its a bit grubby but ive seen worse.

Any ideas how to disable egr? i did it on a land rover and had to blank the mainfold off.

Assuming the EGR valve is in working order and not stuck open, and it's controlled by an electrovalve the same as a Xantia, pull off the rubber pipe from the EGR to the electrovalve and plug it so the valve doesn't suck in dirt.
