406 V6 coupe

Post by jgra1 »

all, what do you know / think of them?

I have always thought they looked pretty, but i guess being a 406 underneath has advantages and disadvantages... ?

Great engine, nice looks, lots of toys.. no hydraulics :(

worth a buy cheap or avoid with a bargepole?

Seems in a few months / years large engines will be a luxury of the past...

Great donor to make a manual V6 Activa John

Seriously nice cars but it should have been the Xantia Activa. There was a prototype Activa that looked very similar and sadly it never went into production.

Andmcit has posted some pictures in the Activa area.

Get one whilst you can!

hmm.. well I have been offered it, a 98 auto, very clean but has had water in the engine...

An engine-speed frequency tapping or knocking, possibly from the top end, is the symptom..

Chap wants £600 ish..

I originally thought of a V6 engine swap but that scares me, as does engine work on one.. what are your thoughts? would be a nice car when finished although not a manual... engine on my V6 xantia took up all available space in the engine bay... is it a project to far.... would have to find somewhere to do it to, a barn or similar...

unlikely to be worth much more than £1000 finished but a nice car to own and keep... but would rather a manual ....

well.. I have basically gone and done it....

A year after selling my V6 xantia to someone in France, sold because I was too scared about it going wrong, I should by this time tomorrow be the new owner of a 99K miles 406 coupe V6 Auto...

:O

It has major engine damage from water ingress..

A new blog I fear

Well done that man  You know it makes sense!

Look on the positive side John, all a V6 is, basically, is two three cylinder engines joined at the hip. A lot simpler when said quicky, than a 4 cylinder engine - one less cylinder to worry about...

And a lot less than a V8 and you know all about those
It sounds bad but I'll wager not as bad as it seems.

What's the history of the car John? What happened to cause the water ingress?

Ouch! Sounds like a machine gun is going beserk in there John..

Bent valve(s) for sure but at least it runs well so fixable for sure :D It takes very little bend in a valve stem to make a real racket.

You need one of these...

This was taken from an old 1920s motorcycle book I have...

She looks a beautiful car John and in a great colour too. I just adore the shape of the 406 Coupe :P

I have been offered a 50K 406 V6 engine for £120,,, seems very good bargain even though it looks like I no longer need it...

Jim this head should be removable in-situ, difficult as it may be?

will go under bonnet later and have a look :)

Nice styling. 8)

Although if a previous owner had been over enthusiastic with his/her car, and if it had accident damage that left the front end undamaged, and if it had a V6 in it, I would see it as a donor for an Activa.
