Thanks for coming back with the cause of the problem bubber. Knowing it's a Lucas, that makes sense...

Indeed it's the boost compensator membrane!

As Anders says, a very cheap and easy fix :D

Sounds right up my street :D
OK, now then, where could I get this part? Can I buy membrane separate or do I need to get boost compensator complete?
Have googled without success.

Hi bubber,

Give Merlin Diesel a call. They should be able to help.

Else that, get a compensator off a scrapper. This pump found very wide application over the years, particularly in the 306TD.

For now the engine will run fairly well with it disconnected/blocked off.

Sorry for late reply, been offline all day.
Will def give merlin a call, failing that will try srappers, although I prefer new as you never can trust old parts and I've a feeling I may have to buy complete pump to get pod off.
Will let you know outcome.
