406 1.9td correct running temperature

Post by baxter »

Hello all, I have a 1997 406 1.9td with ac, and was wondering what temperature it should be running at, mine runs at around 80 most of the time while driving, and in traffic with no heater on and no ac on it rises to 100 and then the slow fans come on to bring it back down to 90, is this correct as 90-100 seems high to me, I have disconnected the theremoswitch to check that the fast speed fans come on and all is working ok there, and when i switch on the ac the slow fans work ok, i have done a little reading and found this link for the 306 cooling system

After reading this it sounds like mine is about right any thoughts cheers.

welcome Baxter...

My xantia [same engine] runs at around 90 on a warm day (70ish this morning - outside temp was 14C) -

it can get to 95/100C and fans kick in, and recently I saw 110C in a city up a fair few hills... fans on max speed..

Car has new rad, and cooling system seems to be in good order..

Thanks for the reply John, when it gets to 90 degrees I start to get a bit worried, when it goes to 100 degrees I start to panic, at least I know now its normal, I will just have to get myself used to it, cheers.
