806 speedo LCD display duff

Me again. My 806 has a digital LCD display for the mileage but it doesn't work. I know you can get them repaired for £90 on the web but I wondered if there was any other way? Also, does the mileage stay with the car or the speedo? This brings up all number of ethical questions? Ta.

Have you checked the light bulb. If the bulb blows then the LCD isn't visible. They are standard capless lamps. Before dismantling the dash shine a torch on the display to see if you can read the mileage.

Yes, tried that. Had the whole dash out and checked bulbs. Some were missing which I replaced and now I have a working temp guage (Hurrah) and ABS and Airbag warning lights (Boo).
