406 power steering

Post by np »

My b in laws 406 2.1td,R reg i think, has sprung a leak. From what he says, theres a pipe coming off the power steering pump, metal, then crimped into a rubber pipe, about 2ft long. Its leaking at the crimped joint.
The question is,once he(or me  )have replaced the pipe, does the system need bleeding :?:
never had to change one before, but i assume its just a case of changing said pipe, topping up fluid, the turning steering from lock to lock a few times then check level :?:

Nope, no bleeding par-se. Just refill with fluid and with the front wheels off the ground and engine running, move the steering from lock to lock a few times and all air will be expelled. Top up, job done :D

The process is not unlike the "Citarobics" us Citroen types do on our hydraulics to bleed air.

That's how I've done it when I've changed steering racks.
