My b in laws 406 2.1td,R reg i think, has sprung a leak. From what he says, theres a pipe coming off the power steering pump, metal, then crimped into a rubber pipe, about 2ft long. Its leaking at the crimped joint.
The question is,once he(or me )have replaced the pipe, does the system need bleeding
never had to change one before, but i assume its just a case of changing said pipe, topping up fluid, the turning steering from lock to lock a few times then check level

Nope, no bleeding par-se. Just refill with fluid and with the front wheels off the ground and engine running, move the steering from lock to lock a few times and all air will be expelled. Top up, job done
The process is not unlike the "Citarobics" us Citroen types do on our hydraulics to bleed air.
