Air Flow

Post by stevenlizuk »

Can someone give me a hand with this?

How much air is a 2100cc td engine drawing at 4500rpm.

I think I've worked it out but want to see if what other answers are put forward?

Cheers

hmm I am gonna go crazy and say the following.

Lets say one cylinder will be sucking in air, the other thee will be blowing exhaust, igniting or compressing.

So at any one time at least 420cc of air are being sucked in. That is if there wasn't any fuel. Without how much fuel being injected in each cylinder its difficult to say. Probably not much, lets say 20cc. (thats a complete guess and probably wont constitute a stoichiometric value!) But anyway, based on that:

So at any one time 400 cc of air is always being sucked in per revolution.

400 x 4500 rpm = 1800000 cc of air in a minute.

So about 1800 litres per minute.
That actually sounds plausible!

Close to what i got.

2100cc divided by four (cylinders) = 525cc

525 X 4500rpm = 2362500cc.

2362.5 cubic meters per minute.

Trying to find an air pump which will put positive air pressure to the intake and trying to ensure I get something with enough guts to actually overcome the suction of the engine.

Any suggestions?

Just re read what I put, but I am curious how I managed to divide 2100 by 4 and ended up with 420?!!

Exactly the reason I wanted someone else to check my numbers!

Got myself a bilge blower from e-bay so next is to purchase a higher power motor for it to give it enough power to actually move pore air than the engine.
Thought 4500rpm was a good place to stop as the engine is getting a little stressed by that point anyway.
I also need to find a high enough powered feed for it under the bonnet that's switched through the ignition so it's only running when the engine is.
Any hints?

Cheers
