2001 306 1.4 LX electrical fault

Post by pug_owner2002 »

Hello,

My 306 (2001 X reg, 1.4 LX) has got an annoying intermitant electrical fault.
The grey relay (or flasher unit) that is in the fuse box (and is for the indicators) buzzes whilst driving, it operates as normal when indicating and when it buzzes whilst driving the indicators do not flash.
Is it a simple case of replacing the unit or would something else be causing this?
The contacts are clean and it happens in dry and wet weather so I guess we can rule out moisture being the problem.

Thanks.

Bit worried you have this problem on a '01 car.

Its a wellknown problem on Xantiae, where the stalk blinker switch developes a small leak current internally. Just enough to make the electronic flasher start its relay clicking, but not enough to make the relay contacts provide lamp current for blinking the lamps.

It is possible to modify a resistor on the flasher pcb to decrease sensitivity, also the stalk switch is possible to dismantle, clean & re-lube.

But the most sure and easy remedy is replacing the stalkswitch.

Thanks Anders,

I was worried that someone was going to say the stalk might be faulty.
I'll take it off dismantle and clean it and then report back.

Thanks.
