Door rattle cured

Post by lawns »

Hi all,
Like a lot of other 206 owners I had rattles from the doors on anything other than smooth roads. I traced it to the door lock mechanism that would creak in the closed position when operated with the door open.
The good news is that with lubrication (WD40) and exercise of the lock with the door open, the creaking has stopped and rattles from the doors gone.

You need a treatment with a proper lubricant. WD40 is a general purpose multispray mostly for cleaning and rust solution - AND some instant but very light lubing.
The test is to spray it over a dry lightly rusted area (good place is the battery tray), and then check that area after a month or so. The area has then mostly gone completely dry again. That will not happen with proper oil.

You could try some of the spray lube that is sold for bikes under a variety of brand names - basically wd40 equivalent with PTFE in to provide lubrication. Has the advantage that it lubricates but without attracting dust like even light oil is prone to do - excellent for locks and small mechanisms!

Door rattle cured, lubricant.

Hi,
Thanks for posts. Good point about WD40 and the like from AndersDK.
I do like the idea from rabenson of bike lubricant if it will not attract dust.
Is it as good on door hinges and stays ?

I'd be more tempted to stick with grease on slow moving loadbearing devices such as hinges
