Ive got a 306 hdi 2001 and the fans have never worked.
Recently ive tried sorting my aircon but due to expensive costs its a no go. Ive tried to get the fans going but theres nothing upto 100 degrees. The relays have been checked and the blue senser on the side of the thermostat has been unplugged and connections bridged....still no fans
i think the motors might have gone but how do i test this by connecting 12v to it? the multiplug is also well stuck on with no way of getting it off
any ideas?

..............and when you get that sorted, post in the air/con forum regarding the latest on your air/con problems and let's see if we can help you out on that one too.

The blue sensor is for the temperature gauge.the blue sensor on the side of the thermostat has been unplugged
It’s the brown one that switches the fans on, first at low speed, then at high speed.
Disconnecting it should send both fans to high speed.
The brown one is in the middle.

thanks for the replies
my thermostat doesnt have a brown sensor near it. Theres on a blue plug into the side of the sensor and further up is a yellow plug which i dont know what thats for.
im stuck for ideas now because all auto electritions will charge a fortune in labour to get to the fans (involves taking the bumper off)
any ideas?

If there’s no brown sensor, it may have a temperature switch on the radiator.
Shorting pin 3 to ground should switch the fans to low speed.
Shorting pins 2 & 3 to ground should switch them to high speed.
You may be able to access the relays by removing the grill only, and test the fans like that.

as i may have mentioned im not brilliant with electrics. I cant see a temp switch on the rad. The only ones visable are the blue one ive mentioned and a plug into the expansion tank, which im assuming is for the water level?
I have accessed the relays by taking the grill of but what sort of tests can i do when i have got to the relays?
cheers

Pull out the relays and check for permanent 12V on the socket pins as shown in the map:
http://www.peugeotlogic.com/workshop/ws ... fanop1.htm
The left fan relay always has 12V on pins 1 & 3, and the right fan relay on pin 3.
Right fan relay is for high speed only, so if there’s no low speed, the fault can be measured at the sockets of the left fan relay, and change-over relay.
You can also test-feed the fans from inside the sockets, using a thick piece of wire.

just a quick update to what ive tried recently. Tried the multiplug by putting a hose clip around it and using that for grip and leverage - no chance so god knows how id get that off if it was essential. (probably is essential really if corrosion behind it)
Pulled the cover off the relays. No visable corrosion here so sprayed with wd40 and replaced.
Sorry this isnt very technical but might shed some light for some people -
When the left green (high speed) relay is off and a wire connected to the top feed and left side, there is some clicking from the ecu and an 'electric' noise but no fans spinning.
Any ideas?

Which one is the multiplug you’re referring to ?
They mostly have a metal spring clip that you push in to release.
One on the inner wing has a sliding lock where you can see along the side which way to slide to unlock.
The pin arrangement of the relay sockets, unfortunately, I don’t know off hand, I would have to be inside of it to see.
It should be possible to deduct from a diagram etched onto the relay itself.
You may also have to follow the wires from the sockets to the motors.
The motor wires are thick; the relay coil wires are thin.

With a bit of luck, and if it’s any consolation, the multi plug will be the cause of your troubles.
It’s very well placed to get corroded:

Best wishes with the sparky.
