306 rear pads

Post by David Humphrey »

I need to replace the rear pads on my daughters car. Had a quick look and just wondered if someone could confirm you have to turn the pistons to get them back into the caliper? I think it looks similar to the front pads on a bx I once had . I remmber something about leaving the cut in the piston at a certain angle.

You are correct. The 306 pistons conveniently have notches in them to help turn them.
As I remember, you need to end up with the additional small notches horizontal.

There is a matching pip on the inner pad to fit the notch in the piston. This decides the position of the piston and prevents the piston turning. Otherwise the self-adjusting handbrake mechanism may cause the piston to turn.
Might not be exactly the same design as found on the BX. But the function is exactly the same.
