1997cc Hdi Peugeot 806 Timing Marks?

Post by ABRecovery »

Hi, what a day I've had, took me ages to get cambelt covers off!! I can see a timing mark in the camshaft pulley, and two threaded holes on the injection pump but nothing to align them with, and under the cam pulley there looks like some other mechanical device, is it ok to jam a bolt in this to lock the engine? looked for a hole into fly wheel area too, no luck....Pls anyone help!! LOL...Thx

While old belt is still on, you lock all axles with timing dowels. Available from any of your local larger tool stores. I recommand that you invest in this in-valuable tool for the DIY'er. Takes out all the stress and uncertainty on a cambelt job : you can concentrate on all the small pains to get there and replace the belt. No worries if you get the timing correct.

Your Lion800 will have the common and wellknown 2.0 HDI engine from the PSA range. No problems finding parts or tools. There is a timing hole under the starter motor, in the bellhouse flange towards the gearbox. This will lock the flywheel (crank) in the correct position when the other axles are locked.

Losen the tensioner and remove belt before you put any strain or torque to the crank axle, as the belt may well transfer unduly torque to cam(s) and pump axles you have locked.

The high pressure fuel pump is not timed to the engine & does not require locking.

Dont know if this will help, but it's the way I do every belt on any car.

Get the covers off
Time the engine and put the pins in (if you want to, I dont bother)
Using Tippex, mark the belt and pulleys
Mark the cam twice and an arrow showing direction
Undo tensioner and remove belt
Transfer the marks to the new belt
Fit the belt ensuring marks are aligned
Tension belt
Remove pins if used
Put the rest back together

I take the view that the original belt must be on ok otherwise it will not work!!

I have used this method for years and consider it to be the best method as it is a case of belt and braces, you only get one shot at a belt on a deisel.

But of course it's no good when the belt has snapped!!!!!!!

Slim.

It is more or less the same. Hole in flywheel near starter motor and hole in cam pulley. Use the correct tool (cheap from Ebay) as bolts never are quite good enough I find.
