Misfiring 206 1.9 Diesel

Post by lagunanut »

Hi,
My wifes 51 plate 206 1.9 diesel (non turbo) does not like running at low revs (under 2000 rpm) on a light throttle. Foot down its fine, as diesels go but misses when cruising and on a light throttle. It passes the MOT tests OK. Has anyone any ideas on where I can start looking?

Check simple things :

Try find any water drain screw on the fuel filter assembly. Then drain out a few mL in a cup. Any water would be seen as small jelly like lumps in the fuel.
How is the fuel filter ? Been there since you got the car

Look over every small fuel rubber hose you can find. Any small surface hairline cracking (or obviously a split) in the hoses are suspect to allow air getting IN the fuel system. This will cause haywock in the rotary fuel injector pump.
Especially on Bosch systems you should look carefully on the "cucumber" fuel lines between injectors (the rubber ones). Even though these are surplus fuel returns - they cause haywock in Bosch systems if leaking.
Try the fuel bulb pump. It should get hard after a few squeezes. If not there is a leak in the fuel lines.
