I need a lifebelt in my 406.....so much water!

Post by JohnT »

Hi, 1997 405 TD saloon. There is water in the front footwell when I park on my drive. Yes, water will find its lower level to that lowest point but where is it coming from?
I do not mean a few drops I am talking litres when I was washing the car or it rains. Any ideas please? Is there a common fault to look for?
I have checked the outlets to the front wings under the bonnet and they are not blocked. :?
Cheers!

Eliminate the heating and coolant etc. check the cars coolant level.

Do you have a sunroof? Have you checked the window and door seals?

I have the same problem in mine in the rear passenger side foot well.I think its now the door seal,as if you open it when its rained there is water on the inside of the seal.I cant find anywhere else it is coming from.
It soon dryed out the other week in the dry spell, but now it is soaked. The cars only 3 yrs old & just out of warranty

I had exactly this whenever I parked our 405 on a transverse slope. never have found out why. As long as it's parked on the level it is always dry.

i had a similar problem on a xantia.i found it was the drain tube for the sunroof was blocked, and the pan the sunroof sits in was filling up and overflowing into the car behind the side panels, cleared drain tube and everything now ok.

Checked the door drain holes are clear?

Checked the 3 sill drain holes are clear?

Checked the aircon ( if fitted ) drain pipe isnt blocked?

Checked the sunroof ( if fitted ) drain pipes are clear?

Also I had issues with the front door rubbers letting in rain / water on my old 405 when parked up but at nearly £50 a side I lived with it.

Water would drain out the door drain holes & then find its way into the cabin.

Pollen filter isnt missing? Scuttle plastic in place?

Both scuttle drain holes clear? One under washer bottle / other under ECU ( you dont have one ) / pollen filter.

Anyway are we talking 405 or 406 here? got 406 in title but 405 in the first post? ? ?

Nah, had a spell on 206 forum ( no longer posting there due to heavy handed mods & amount of idiots on there )

I used to laugh at all the questions over multiplexing issues with aftermarket stereo etc :D

Stupid big wheels causing rubbing problems was another good one on there :D

Had a few problems with main dealer & Pug customer service.

Been busy playing with CAN - BUS at work

Just really busy to be honest, decided to look in the other day & now without the 206 forum taking up my time im back

Havent played with any Peugeot CAN yet, A lot of the fork lifts at my work are CAN - BUS.

Fly by wire brakes, throttle, steering etc, pretty advanced

I can test the CAN with the meter to see if

A: The voltage supply is healthy
B: CAN lines are intact ( check the resistance across the 2 )

Other then that you look at the fault code displayed ( 99.9% of time spot on ) or plug the computer in & run a diagnostic check.

The CAN - BUS forklifts are so much easier to fault find electrically, Fault codes are spot on, do diagnostic work with PDA or computer plugged in.

Up date software, do the parameter set up in minutes.

Also lots less wires running round the truck that could get damaged thanks to CAN - BUS

One man up truck they managed to reduce a big loom ( that always had wires breaking ) with 120 wires in to the cab down to just 4 thanks to CAN - BUS.

Some of the newer man up trucks have over 500 parameters in the basic set up, wouldn't want to do those with the dash buttons & display, just squirt the settings in with computer.

Cant beat a bit of CAN - BUS
