406 oil to use

Hello to all
New to the site, drive a 406 and have a 106 diesel.

Just acquired a 406 saloon 1.8petrol(p reg)
Its been serviced 2/3 months ago, i checked oil level after getting car and its half way up dipstick level. So im goin to do an oil and filter change and see if its using oil( dont think theres a leak) So whats best oil to use.
Any recommendations?

I have been using magnatec for years. If it does what it says then its great for me as I drive ridiculously short journeys to work and back!
