hi there
New to this forum and was wondering if any body would know what the small flat black module with four wires is and does that is on the back of the diesel pump on a 1999 306 turbo diesel, and if at all poss what the wires do?

Sounds like the immobiliser. This prevents somebody from easily hotwiring your stop solenoid and driving off. It is coded as a pair to your alarm/immobiliser. Can be bypassed if you are swapping injector pumps from one engine to another.
