405 Alarm Siren

Post by Saw Doc Fan »

Could someone tell me the whereabouts of the alarm siren in a 405 GLX, (headlights flash as though the alarm is going off, but there is no noise).

Hi

First check the keyswitch is set to ON, Its behind the passenger side headlamp on the slam panel under that little black cover.

You will most likely find the siren is switched off, The 405 alarm system is wonderful when its under warranty but they do go wrong easily.

You should have a small silver key with TEXTON or something like that to fit that alarm switch.

The siren is up inside the passenger side wing, Remove the plastic wheel arch liner & then unbolt the metal security grill to get at the siren.

NOTE: The siren is battery back up, If its working correctly & you unplug it, It will go off for 5 minutes! Watch your ears just in case.

I think from memory its fuses 14 & 16 in the fuse box for the alarm, Its been a while since I fixed one of these.

The airbag equipped 405 alarm system is pretty good apart from the following things that go wrong.

Bonnet sensor getting water in it & tripping the alarm.

Ultrasonic sensors setting the alarm off all the time.

Battery back up sirens going quite & then killing the battery.

Easy to scan & beat infrared remote key.

Owners losing the alarm siren key when they sell the car on.

PSA Peugeot / Citroen have fixed the last two points with the newer cars systems now, It wont be long before they get it 100% right.

Unless its a cheap fix then the 405 alarm system aint worth spending any money on to fix.

The pre airbag 405s have a shockingly easy security system to beat, Its so full of holes & flaws its unbelievable.
