205 heater

Post by np »

A friend of mine has just got a 205 Diesel,D reg.12mths T & T for £100.Not the best looking car,but it has a good engine.Its ideal for work.
Anyway, the only thing that seems to be wrong is that the heater is not working. The blower works, all the controls seem to move fine,it just blows out cold air all the time.No hot air,or even warm.He says the previous owner told him that it has`nt blown hot for a while. Its had a new thermotat & coolant, but is still the same.
Anyone any ideas.
Cheers

Has the matrix been short circuited because of a leak?

A quick look under the bonnet should confirm if the heater matrix is still connected. If it has been bypassed, then assume the matrix is leaking, and needs a new one.

If the matrix is still connected, then disconnect both pipes, and then run a garden hose into the outlet of the matrix, and see if it flushes. Even if it does flush, I would suspect that a number of the matrix pipe passes will still be blocked, and a new matrix is the only cure.

I seem to remember somewhere reading that it is possible to do a matrix on a 205 without removing the dash..... goes in through the glovebox hole, or something like that.
This is not a signature.

Turn on ignition & the heater fan. Slide the temp control hot to cold & back a few times.

You often hear a change in power or tone of the air blown in.

Try it with another 205, if the noise changes on another car with a good heater maybe the temp control is U/S.

Or of course a air pocket?

On a similar scheme, My dad once had a 305 van that needed the heater matrix changing.

A left hand drive 305 would have taken us 30 mins start to finish.

Being a right hand drive & all the dismantling needed make that 2 & a half hours.

There is no pipes running in/out of the bulkhead,so would apeer that the matrix has been bypassed.
Hes not going to do anything with it as it only cost £100,& he cant be botherd with it.
Thanks for the help.
