406 HDi - slipping clutch

Post by dvhttn »

Hi Chaps,

Did a search but didn't find anything too relevant. A mate has a 406 HDi 90 Estate and the clutch has just started slipping. He's a mite miffed as he's not had it long, though he got it cheap off a mate who's a dealer.

Anyhow, the slipping occurs just when you'd expect it too. Hard acceleration (though everything is relative with a 90 ..... ) or up hills laden etc. Now I've never had a 406 and my mate isn't Mr Fixit when it comes to cars so I was wondering if there is anything to check out BEFORE he has the clutch replaced (it's done about 80K miles)?
His mechanic says there is no adjustment available on this car - it's all automatic. Is that right and, if so, anything else to check?

Thanks in advance.

If it's anything like my 306 the auto adjuster is part of the clutch cable and can seize.
maybe worth a check.
