Fuel consumption just gone straight up?

i have a peugeot 306 sedan 1.8 petrol m reg (95). Just recently the miles per gallon has gone up. now i'm getting like 25 mpg?? I have an auto diagnostic light come up on the dashboard, could this be linked? Also this could be linked to it- when the car is cold it sometimes is a little sluggish for the first couple of miles (maybe choke sticking on?) Any solutions or advice , thanks

Cure this problem by freeing the rear brakes up:

and I'd reckon the fuel consumption should improve. A diagnostic on the ECU to find out why the "K" loght is staying on should just about sort the rest.
