Missing plate

Post by groinpain »

Help
Just bought a 1996 1.4 XN before parting with my money i checked the chassis number from the reg document with the one on the inside edge of the drivers wing under the bonnet, all was ok. Now the car is at home a cant find the identification plate normally found on the slam panel. The panel itself is not the same colour as the vehicle so it leads me to believe that it might have had a front end crash at some time and the plate was not replaced (bodgers) If that is the case can I purchase a new one from Peugeot?
I know somebdoy out there will know the answer

Thanks you knowledgable lot

Hi
Have you looked inside the boot? Some Peugeots have the VIN plate there.
If the VIN plate is missing then the car should have failed the MOT test anyway!

Hi
The colour code wont be on the VIN plate
Have a look around the front passenger side suspension strut area under the bonnet for a 4 letter code, Could be in white or yellow letters, Thats the paint code. Or if you cant find it take the VIN number to any Peugeot dealer & they can tell you what colour it is by looking it up on the parts computer.
Im not 100% sure it will be there on a 306 though but its worth a look.

Your welcome, The slam panel on the 306 SHOULD be painted the same colour as the rest of the bodyshell.
On the 205 the slam panel was always left in primer, Thats a good way of telling if a 205 has been stuffed.
