lambda sensor test

Post by Linchpin »

Hi all, still getting bad idle / flat spots on my XSi.
Anyone know how to test the lambda sensor ?
I was thinking of unplugging it, and seeing if it made any difference to the way the car runs. Is this a good idea?
Cheers

Not sure. Im not all that clued up to be honest. I know the car passed the emissions test on its MOT 4 months ago. I was thinking of unplugging the Lambda and seeing how it runs. Is this advisable?

Hi
Unplugging the lambda sensor & running the car is NOT a good idea,The car will throw up a fault code in the engines ECU & will also stick the car in limp home mode. You will also burn a lot more fuel & ruin the cat.
Also if you end up having to get a new lambda sensor, Go for a Bosch one everytime, The cheap universal ones only last a couple of months & you are back to square one again.

Great... Any other way I can test it? The symptoms on the bottom of that site all are what im getting, except the emissions bit.

Hi
You could either seek a fuel injection specialist to test your car or stick a known good sensor in & see if the car performance improves over a week or two.
Or buy a new sensor, About £100 from Peugeot but cheaper elsewhere for the same one.
Any ideas what make of sensor is fitted? What car is it on? What engine?

Hi
This 306 XSI, Not that it matters much but is it the 8 or 16 valve engine?
If 99% sure its going to be a Bosch lambda sensor fitted to the car.
If you have a look at the body on your sensor, It should have BOSCH & then a 10 digit number on the metal body,The number will be something like X XXX XXX XXX, Get this 10 digit number off the sensor & quote this to any Bosch automotive dealer & then they can match up the exact same part from this number but CHEAPER then Peugeot.
When working with Bosch, ALWAYS quote the 10 digit number for an exact match up.

Ok, quick update.
I spoke to a company, that said my Coil pack cold have spiked my ECU? I had the ECU code read, and was nothing on there (no fault codes).
I may have an oppertunity to get hold of a working GTI6 throttle body, any idea if this will fit? or can i transplant the sensors into my throttle body housing.
Sorry if i dont make sence, i dont really know what im doing lol im going to pass this onto a mechanic friend
PS.
will trade PC technical work for car fix! :-)
Cheers in advance!

[:D]Hi if you are looking for a Lambda sensor try www.pugbitz.com these guys are fantastic. Give them a ring and 99.9% of the time they have the bit you want.
They strip and break only Peugeots so know their stuff. I had similar problems to you so bought a 2nd hand Lambda sensor.
Cost £17 inc postage! A genuine Bosch part off the same type of car as mine + they come with a warranty.
Sorted my car anyway.
Give them a call!!

Did your car also idle too high, then drop down once the wheels had stopped?
Cheers

Do you mean the idle speed is higher then normal when the car is still moving slowly?
