406 exec cd auto changer

Post by richardstvc »

Hi,
I have a 406 exe est w reg
I changed the lcd panel for the traffic assist / radio / fuel computer as it was cracked, now the CD changer refuses to work, when the button is pushed on the head unit nothing happens. If i put back in the old lcd panel all is fine.
Are there different lcd panels? can`t see why this should stop the cd working

I *think* the LCD panels on these are coded to the radio. I'm not sure, but I think I've heard something like this in the past. Once Mr. Powerlee gets here, I'm sure he'll be able to tell you... I'm fairly sure he knows more about Peugeot wiring than Peugeot themselves.

hi, thanks for the reply. I have just had the cd changer reactivated to the display today by a dealer. This does have to be done when the display is changed.

Hi
The pains of owning a multiplex Pug, Its a real shame that Peugeot didn't make the system plug & play.
I can understand having to update software when its a radio code or key coding is needed, But Its a right pain for multiplex Pug owners when they change parts or upgrade there cars when they have to get someone to update the software afterwards before it will work.

Hmmm
Not sure on that one.
You already had a CD changer & you want to swop it for another one.
Its worth a try just swopping it & seeing what happens, 50 - 50 chance it will be ok. ( But anythings possible with PSAs software )
There was a person on the Top Gear site with a Citroen C5 who had his software updated by a Citroen dealer & they loaded up the left hand drive version by mistake, He noticed when he went to open the window & the passenger one opened instead!

You say your changer is broken? Have you had any strange electrical faults with your 406 just lately?
Im just asking because water leaking past the rear lamp seals & getting into the cd changer & then driving the multiplex system mad is another 406 trait!
Im sure there must be some independent Peugeot / Citroen specialists out there somewhere who can make sense of the multiplex system & sort software & coding issues?

Haven't had any electrical issue other than the cd changer not working about a week ago. I pulled it out the other day and it has a big sticker on the side with a hand written "water ingress, warranty". I'm assuming it's had problems with previous owners. Just bought a changer on ebay out of a T reg 406. Lets see if it works.
I like the top gear articule. The joys of multiplexing!!

Just got the CD changer that I bought off ebay. Pluged it in and nothing happened, no power to the changer, no motor, when I pluged my old broken one in it still has power to eject the magasine. My old changer Model number is PU2293A and this one is PU2293D. Both came out of a T reg 406, same back connector and look identical. Any suggustions are welcome?

Hi
Can you see any makers names on the cd changers?
Blaupunkt? Clarion? Phillips? etc
Are they both the same make?

you shouldnt have to do that as the changer is not programible,if it was the head unit then yes as this is coded to the BSI & chassis number of the car,if you fit a CD changer (if the car never alread had one) it needs to be programed into the BSI & multifunction display but the changer itself has no coding so once it is programed you should be able to put another one in (if its the same model) without having to reprogram.
it is possible that the changer you have bought is for a non multiplex model.

Both Head unit (RM2) and changer are both Clarion. It had a factory fitted changer (Model No.PU2293A). The one I bought on ebay is a Clarion PU2293D. I assumed that this would not matter. There could be a fault with the new changer bought on ebay.
