PowerLee - don't open up that can of worms again!
Chindu - some of them self-destruct. Have a look through the archive and make your own mind up.

Im just stating a FACT, That the April 1997 to april 1998 XUDT engines with serial numbers containing DHY are best avoided.
The DHX coded ones are fine.

Hi
Have a look on your V5 log book where it says engine number, Does DHY show up there?

I seem to remember on my old XUD that there was a small plate riveted to the front of the block, which can be seen if you peer down between the fuel filter and the injection pump. It might be covered in crap, but this will either say D8A or DHY.
Another way to tell if you are mechanically minded: The DHY had an EGR system and a Lucas fuel pump whereas the D8A didnt have the EGR and either Lucas or Bosch pumps [:-D]

I dont think it will affect your selling chances. Only somebody really in the know about these cars and engines would avoid a DHY engined car (eg those on this forum!!) The 306 is still a popular car, especially in TD form.
If you are going to keep the car, disable the egr system by either pulling the vacuum tube from the valve or the green multiplug from the control box, as some think the EGR is the cause of the holes in blocks....

Don't worry about the DHY engine code. This whole con-rod thing has been blown wildy out of proportion by a very very tiny minority of disgruntled peugeot drivers. There are quite literally millions of happy diesel engined peugeot, citroen, rover etc drivers out there with this engine under their bonnets. Millions.
It's a fantastic engine and looked after is good for 200k +

I've had a bit of a dig around after finding out that my 306 has the dreaded DHY engine code (have found some talk of it specifically being DHY600 codes). As it happens I was lucky as it was manufactured before the problem began. There's some discussion at: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/?t=26086
Quoting Ross_D at the link above "I think it is a pretty rare event for these to fail so badly, think of the 5 million XUD's that were made and these failures now seem a bit rare."
I am interested in what people think about disconnecting the EGR - is this likely to cause any other issues?
