Peugeot 306 - 1.6 vs 1.8

Post by Q4Legend »

My mate reckons that an L Reg 1.6 Peugeot 306 is actually quicker than an N Reg 1.8XT Peugeot 306 - Is this true?
I cannot see how it possibly can be (unmodified) - it's not as if the weight would be any different.
Any ideas?
Is there a website I can look up?
Cheers

1.6 8v
Engine Size: 1587 cc
Cylinders: 4
0-60 mph: 13.1 s
Power Output: 90 bhp
Valves: 8
Torque: 137 Nm
Torque: 101 lb/ft
Top Speed: 111 mph
MPG: 38
1.8 16v
Engine Size: 1761 cc
Cylinders: 4
0-60 mph: 11.1 secs (auto 14.6 secs)
Power Output: 112 bhp
Valves: 16
Torque: 155 Nm
Top Speed: 119 mph (auto 109)
MPG: 34
So it isn't on paper, although I'm sure my 1.6 is quicker than 13 seconds! (but I haven't timed)
But there isn't so much difference I don't think to justify the lower mpg of the 1.8
There was also a 1.6 16v very late in the life of the 306 which does match up!...
1.6 16v
Engine Size: 1587 cc
Cylinders: 4
0-60 mph: 11.3 s
Power Output: 100 bhp
Valves: 8
Torque: 138 Nm
Torque: 103 lb/ft
Top Speed: 114 mph
MPG: 41

Thanks for those stats mate - are all 1.8s 16v?
I have a 1.8XT N reg and my other mate seems to think it's an 8v.
I presume it will be in my hand book somewhere?
Thanks

Your 1.8 is an 8 valve engine. The 16 valve engines came along with the Phase 2 facelift.

apologies! I didn't have the data for the 8v,and didn't realise there was one!
It seems the 1.8 8v has 103BHP and takes 12 secs to 60 with a top speed of 114, so there isn't a lot in it!
