Oil pressure

Post by bad driver »

What kind of pressures should Oil be at? Bit random I know but Ive just put a gauge in a turbo diesel and it seems a bit low and random, not sure if it indicates a fault or if its normal with the chaiin oil pumps.
Basically start car and its around 25psi, if you rev and hold so its on boost it climbs to around 47psi then drops with the revs, after its been running for a few minutes the idle drops to about 19psi and on boost at 45 psi.

I had a similar problem with an old Triumph Spitfire I fitted a gauge to. I priced up crank regrinds, gaskets etc and it wasn't cheap!
I sorted it out by taking the gauge out again, and not worrying about it.
The engine ran for many thousands of miles after that!
(actually, your figures aren't too bad)

yeah found out the xsi runs around 2 bar idle and 4-5 bar under load so its more or less the same given it revs at 2k less on the TD. So seems its all OK :D
